Check filter pressure

Check before you act. This one is driven by what you measure, not by the date. Check your filter pressure gauge backwash if it is running 8–10 psi over your clean baseline

What you are looking for When you last backwashed and the filter was clean, the gauge settled at a number. That is your clean starting pressure. Backwashing is triggered by movement away from it, not by the calendar. ## What to do 1. With the pump running, read the pressure gauge. 2. If it is 8–10 psi above your clean starting pressure, backwash. 3. If it is not, do nothing. This is a check, not a chore. ## Backwashing, briefly Stop the pump before moving the multiport valve — always. Moving it under pressure is how the valve spider gasket gets destroyed. Set to Backwash, run until the sight glass is clear, stop the pump, set to Rinse, run 20–30 seconds, stop the pump, return to Filter. ## Why this is not weekly work Backwashing dumps water you have paid to heat and chemically balance, and it lifts the sand bed. Doing it on a schedule instead of on the gauge wastes both.
