Clean the spa filter
Every four weeks
Spa water is hot, heavily used, and there is very little of it — the filter loads up far faster than a pool's. Caldera states every four weeks, and Bullfrog says every three to six for cylindrical cartridges. Monthly is a safe reading of both.
What to do
- Turn the spa off at the breaker.
- Remove the cartridge.
- Rinse with a garden hose, working between the pleats at an angle.
- For a proper clean, soak in a filter degreaser per its directions, then rinse thoroughly.
- Refit and restore power.
Two things not to do
No pressure washer. It drives debris into the media and tears the pleats.
No dishwasher. Both Caldera and Bullfrog say so directly — heat and detergent destroy the filter.

Replace the Bullfrog filter cartridge with Microban (10-2870). every year–2 years.
Bullfrog states cylindrical cartridges typically last 1-2 years.

Jacuzzi: clean monthly, replace every 18 months.

Replace all 2 Jacuzzi pleated filter cartridge (J-300)s — this model takes 2. every 2 years.
