Deep clean the cartridges
Check before you act. This one is driven by what you measure, not by the date. Check whether a plain hose rinse still brings your pressure back down — give the cartridges a filter-cleaner soak and then an acid soak if rinsing alone no longer works
When a hose rinse stops being enough Sooner or later a rinse stops bringing the pressure back down. That is oil and scale, not dirt, and it needs a soak. ## Oils first If your pool sees a lot of sunscreen and lotion, soak the cartridges for at least an hour in a commercial filter cleaner, or 1 cup of TSP per 5 gallons of water, or 1 cup of dishwasher detergent per 5 gallons. Rinse thoroughly. ## Then scale 1. Mix 1 part muriatic acid to 20 parts water — acid into water, never the reverse. 2. Soak each half of the cartridge for about 10 minutes, or until the bubbling stops. 3. Rinse completely before reinstalling. Do the oil soak before the acid soak. Acid on top of oil sets the oil into the fabric and you will not get it out. ## Safety Eye protection and gloves. Outdoors or somewhere well ventilated.
